                                   About the Liberia National Police

The Liberia National Police was established in accordance with section 180 of chapter 13, sub chapter “A” of the executive Law in the Liberian code of law volume 11 of 1955 within the department of Justice and reversed under section 22.70 of the same executive law of 12th, June 1955.

This state that there shall be established in the Ministry of Justice a National Police Force which will headed by a Director, who shall be appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate.

The Director shall be directly responsible to report to the Minister of Justice and subject to his/her direction and control.

The president, with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall also appoints Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and other subordinate as may be required for the effective operation of the Liberia National Police.

STRUCTURE OF THE LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE

The Liberia National Police is consists of the following:
1. Director
2. Deputy Directors
3. Assistant Directors
4. A Senior Inspector
5. Deputy Senior Inspector
6. Sectional Heads

FUNCTIONS OF THE LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE

The Liberia National Police is foremost law enforcement agency in Liberia and it is mandated to detect crimes, apprehend offenders, prevent crime and disorder, maintain law and order and protect life, property and personal liberties.

ORANIZATION OF THE LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE

The Liberia National Police shall consists of the following section
1. Administration Section
i. Personnel
ii. Finance
iii. Records and Identification
iv. The Public Affair Division – Board of Investigation, Band Unit, Chaplain & Court Liaison
v. Logistics
vi. Communication
vii. Planning & Research – Central Statistics Unit, Drafting

2. Operation – Largest and the most important section
i. Patrol
ii. Criminal Investigation Division
iii. Criminal Intelligent Unit
iv. Interpol
v. Public Safety
vi. Motor Vehicle
vii. Emergency Response Unit
viii. Police Support Unit
ix. Women and Children Protection Unit

For policing purpose, Liberia is divided into five (5) geographic or territorial areas. They are:

1. Region one (1) – Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Bassa Counties
2. Region two (2) – Bomi, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties
3. Region three (3) – Bong, Nimba, and Lofa counties
4. Region four (4) – Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, and River Cess Counties
5. Region five (5) – River Gee, Maryland, Grand Kru Counties.

THE LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY

The Liberia National Police Training Academy, (LNPTA), is headed by a Commander deputized by three deputy commanders,
1. Administration
2. Training and Research
3. Curriculum Development

The Liberia National Police Training Academy, (LNPTA), is mandated by law to train all members of the Liberia National Police in various phrases of law enforcement and crime prevention and investigation. It is also responsible to train members of the other law enforcement agencies such as Special Security Service, Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization, National Fire Service, Drugs Enforcement Agency, etc.
